Fiends Project Art Festival Inkygoodness - Shape/Shift Exhibition - Run

I and 25 other illustrators and creatives were invited by Inkygoodness to contribute to an exhibition they have running at the moment at the Fiend Art Festival in Belgium. This is my contribution, the piece is called 'Run'.

Inky Goodness - Shape/Shift Exhibition

I was recently asked by the very nice people at Inky Goodness to contribute to a print exhibition they are presenting in Belgium called 'Shape/Shift'. Its all going to be happening between the 14th and 28th of January and mine and 25 other creatives work will be exhibited.

Rooms Magazine

The bright moon lights the night sky, casting its eerie blue light across the forest below. Dark shadows are cast by the odd array of plant life, hints of light are seen emitting from strange fungi, trees gnarled and foreboding stark against the blanket of stars. A deer prances around grazing the small tufts of grass dotted around the trees. Amongst the stillness of the night a strange room is seen. The wind caresses the curtains, the candles flicker delicately, something is not quite right here.....

Heres the cover illustration for Issue 07 of Rooms Magazine. The cover had to relate to a 'Room' some how, my idea was to have the juxtaposed idea of a room, which is usually considered to be a safe, secure place, exposed in an environment that is not considered to be so secure. I wanted the piece to have a mysterious and an almost ominous feel to it, as if something was about to happen...

I also had an 8 page feature complete with interview! There's some really great work in there by some awesome artists so go get yourself a copy!

Experian Xmas Ecard

I recently worked with the digital team at Publicis Chemistry to create an ecard for Experian.
The brief was for a Christmas inspired ecard that gave you the chance, via Experian, to donate 10p to Wish Upon a Star, a charity that grants wishes for sick children.

It was awesome to see my work animated and the guy did a great job!

As well as being asked to produce the portraits for Mammoth and Company (see below) I was also asked to create the logos for the there new venture into children's artwork, The Littlest Mammoth. The logo is inspired by retro ice cream parlours and posters.

I was recently asked by Mammoth and Company to illustrate portraits of the very cool people who work there. They have recently completely updated there site, which looks awesome! It was really fun to do, i had to incorporate there favourite places into the backgrounds which really gave them personality!

Illustrations for New Scientist Magazine for a Graduate Careers Special. The article is about what to do after you graduate from university, whether its taking a jungle adventure gap year or going back to the books and studying for an MA.

The old fella in the middle is the careers 'Agony Uncle' a very wise chap when its come to all things career based!

Anorak Magazine

Here is a short story that i recently illustrated for Anorak Magazine and is featured in there Happy Issue (also there 5th anniversary issue!). It was written by 9 year old Griffin and features werewolves, dragons and knights! Which are all very fun to work with.

I've been working on an illustration for the guys from FAKE Magazine for their new issue, its a really cool mag and i loved working with them, I'll post the illustration when Issue 2 is launched. Get over to there site there's a few copies of Issue 1 still to buy and you can pre-order Issue 2!

New work for the lovely people at New Empress Magazine. It depicts a scene based upon the city from the movie 'Blade Runner'. I really wanted to encompass the futuristic 'neon' feel of the film while keeping a dark and gritty mood, really cool working on something related to a film as iconic as Blade Runner!

Here are some working shots of the murals i have recently done for The Passion Pit in Leek, Staffordshire. Its a really unique salon that is full of cool antique mirrors and old leather armchairs, and even some old bus seats! Check out there Facebook page which you can get to from the link above.

3 pieces for them for Ricola Mints.
Here are the 3 they chose, the idea is having a bad throat in these situations is very bad but if they had used a Ricola mint they would be fine!

I had the urge to do a really dark, stormy scene and wanted it to be at sea. I also love the myth and folklore surrounding giant sea creatures. Hope you like it guys!

A new piece i created, I decided i wanted to create a piece where the format was different from a long landscape. I decided to use a long portrait format, and had an urge to do a starry sky after a few clear nights and a bit of stargazing myself.

I was recently commissioned by Connect Group to create a Christmas card for Chiltern Railways. The idea is that the present the child is opening is there new Mainline for 2010, which is a faster an more convenient way to travel. I really enjoyed working on this piece and i am very pleased with the out come it totally got me in the Christmas mood!

I've recently completed a piece for Anorak, The Happy Mag For Kids. I was asked to create a double page game for the Winter issue with 'Books' as the theme. I decided to do a spot the difference of a scene which included all my favourite book characters from my childhood. I really had fun creating this piece and can't wait to see it printed! These pieces feature Colin the giant, he's the only giant in the world and is struggling to fit in. So he decides to help the people in the town near where he lives. This story is based on an Inuit Myth that i adapted and illustrated. The story follows a crow who promises to bring sunlight to a small Inuit village that is constantly in darkness.

Lets Talk Type

External brief set by The Chase design agency.

The Brief: Illustrate a conversation between two people using type and image to illustrate sound. I based my conversation between two schoolgirls, with opposed emotional states; one angry and one calm. I then showed these emotions on two sides of a school desk, the angry side full of illustrations and the calm side just simple type.

Penguin/Puffin Book Awards 2010
Competition brief which a new book cover was needed for the classic Lewis Carroll childrens book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The idea behind the design is based on the Chesire Cat and inspired by a line from the book, “I’ve often seen a cat without a grin, but never a grin without a cat”. Using cut out paper and shapes to build up the image and give the cover a Wonderland feel. The handwritten text was inspired by the whiskers on the cat.
